Our Mission
Mission Statement
Inspired by the spirit of St. Dominic and imbued with the vision of our foundresses, Sister Thomasina, de Cantal and Aloysia, the Tacoma Dominicans respond to God’s call to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our Dominican tradition of contemplation impels us to collaborate in networks of spiritual, educational and political commitment to create a just society that addresses basic human needs and ends the violence that erodes our planet. The Mission Continues !
Meeting February 26-27,2011 as General Chapter of Life and Mission, the Sisters of St. Dominic of Tacoma recently elected Sisters Sharon Casey, Ann Marie Lustig, Anna Murphy and Maureen O’Brien to its Leadership Team. The Chapter participants reaffirmed its Chapter resolutions to meet basic human needs and to end all forms of violence. Specifically, they pledged to continue work to end discrimination by race, religion, and sexual orientation, to end human trafficking, and to work for immigration reform. They will continue to collaborate with groups working on these issues to inform a wide public, to effect legislative support , and to assist the victims of discrimination, trafficking, and unjust actions. The Community sponsored ministry of Catherine Place in Tacoma and other Community groups work to promote peace, justice and non-violence. Contact Tacoma Dominicans at 253-272-9688 or Catherine Place at 253-572-3547 for more information about these ministries.
